2-Step metering kit:
This is an optional upgrade to your 2-Step System and is available to purchase.
This allows you to independently adjust the detergent draw rate of each line with metering valves as they draw from the 2-Step dip tubes. The 2-Step metering kit also includes a flow meter to instantly measure your detergent draw.
By default, the detergent injection system on the 2-Step System is a fixed draw. HCS has designed the 2-Step System in this manner to maximize detergent draw rate and consistency of performance while minimizing leak points and variations in performance. To adjust the performance of your detergents without the 2-Step metering kit based on factors like weather and fleet conditions, you may change the blending volume or purchase strength of your detergents.
To connect your metering valves, cut the detergent tubing from the section of tubing connected to the 2-Step dip tubes. Place each cut end of the detergent tubing over the barbs of the metering valves and securely clamp tight.
Add a set of the female & male couplers to the detergent tubing. You may either make another cut in the detergent tubing after the metering valves or install them at the cut ends of the detergent tubing previously connected by a push-lock fitting. Install the female coupler on the detergent tubing coming from the 2-Step sip tubes and the male end on the other side of the detergent tubing. Securely clamp tight over the hose barbs.
Attach clear detergent tubing and a set of the female & male couplers to the flow meter. Insert a hose barb into the threads for the flow meter block. Cut the section of clear tubing provided into two pieces, then place one end of tubing over the barbs of the metering block and securely clamp tight. On the other end of the clear tubing, add a male end barb to the bottom tubing and a female coupler to the top section, then securely clamp tight.
To measure detergent draw rate, connect the flow meter block with the female & male couplers. Draw detergent through your 2-Step System. The detergent will elevate the height of the float in the metering block indicating the flow rate, which can translated into your draw rate using the conversion chart provided by HCS.
It is not recommended to keep your flow meter continuously connected in-line with your detergent tubing. This can cause corrosion to the flow meter block at a quicker rate of time leading to replacement.
Adding the metering kit to your 2-Step System can create additional leak points for detergents and cause a decrease in your overall detergent draw rate. For best results when purchasing and installing the metering kit, consult with your Account Manager to blend or purchase detergents more concentrated to be metered and adjusted to the proper detergent draw rate. Educate any users of the equipment on the proper draw rate for your detergents to prevent them from applying detergent at too strong or too weak of a dilution ratio.
